WHAT IS A TAU (TAO) CROSS?
The Tau Cross, resembling the Greek letter “T,” is an ancient symbol with roots in pre-Christian cultures, including the Romans and Greeks. It gained particular significance in the Christian tradition through St. Francis of Assisi, who adopted it as a symbol of his monastic order. St. Francis of Assisi, once a wealthy merchant’s son, renounced worldly pleasures after a serious illness and dedicated his life to poverty and service.
